LEGISLATIVE SOLUTION TO EPA
Bi-Partisan Bill In Support Of Jobs and Coal
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – The Intrastate Coal and Use Act was introduced by Republican Delegate Gary Howell. Shortly thereafter, a similar version of the bill was introduced by Democrat Delegate Scott Varner. Since that time, the bill has stalled in the West Virginia Legislature but has been offered as model legislation by the American Legislative Exchange Council.
“Delegates Howell and Varner are to be commended for their work to offer solutions to the assault by Washington and the EPA on West Virginia jobs and coal," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “Unfortunately, politics has stalled the Intrastate Coal and Use Act in West Virginia while it is being embraced nationally and soon in other state legislative bodies.”
“Members of the West Virginia Legislature need to do the right thing and pass the bill as soon as possible as a defense for our jobs and as a statement to the nation that coal can and will be part of the solution to our energy problems. Our dependence on foreign oil can be broken through a responsible commitment to domestic production of coal and natural gas,” said Stuart. “Washington’s continuing assault on West Virginia coal is an assault on all American’s economic future and our national security.”
“West Virginia must be a leader is solving this crisis. Members of both parties in the Legislature need to take action immediately to push back against the unconstitutional actions of the EPA and an Administration that is out of control,” continued Stuart. “The Intrastate Coal and Use Act is an important act that can send a clear message to our citizens and Washington that all West Virginians are united at this critical time for the industry.”
