Democrats "Spendapalooza" Nearly Over
DEMOCRATS “SPENDAPALOOZA” NEARLY OVERState GOP Chair Says Democrats Have Looted State Treasury For Massive Spending
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – At midnight this evening, the 2011 West Virginia Legislative Session will come to a close but not before the passage of massive new spending bills throughout the term.
“'Spendapalooza' is the only term that could be used to define this year’s legislative session," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “Well, “Spendapalooza” ends this evening. The liberal Democrats in the Legislature have increased state spending by more than $1 billion over the next ten years. Spendapalooza has been terribly damaging to our future - massive pay raises for government workers, $100 million in give-aways to the gambling industry, massive increases in DMV and other fees, and adopting Obamacare’s health exchange provisions at a cost of tens of million of dollars.”
“The Democrats have proven they are fiscally irresponsible,” said Stuart. “The Democrats behavior this session has resulted in the literal looting of the state treasury at a time when unemployment is skyrocketing, gas prices are soaring, and the future is uncertain. President Obama would be proud of WV legislative Democrats big-government, big-spending, and big-tax agenda. Even Obama would have trouble keeping pace.”
“Not a single dollar was cut from the budget – not one,” continued Stuart. “How can the Democrats increase spending by more than $1 billion dollars and not be able to find $1 to cut? Instead of working for us, the Democrats in the Legislature are beholden to special interest. The Democrats have proven they completely sold-out to union bosses that are more interested in union dues than union jobs. It is a disgrace. And 'we the people' are the losers in the liberal Democrats game of politics.”
“In 2012, fourteen Senate Democrats and sixty-five House Democrats shall stand for reelection,” said Stuart. “All seventy-nine will need to explain to the voters why they stand with Obama and not with us, why they cannot control spending, and why they refuse to lower taxes. We intend to vigorously compete for every Democrat-held legislative seat. The people of West Virginia need jobs and the Democrats don’t seem to understand or listen. Spendapalooza must end.”
“Adding insult to injury, despite overwhelming public opposition, the Democrats passed provisions of Obamacare in West Virginia and refused to allow consideration of a Republican pro-life amendment to the bill,” continued Stuart. “Legislative Democrats intentionally blocked a pro-life amendment in a bill that is not wanted or needed by our citizens. Most Democrats in WV are pro-life. Why aren't legislative Democrats?”
“Without new leadership, West Virginia is in serious trouble,” concluded Stuart. “The overwhelming control of the Legislature by the Democrats is resulting in the people of West Virginia being mugged by the special interest. If for not other reason, we need to send more Republicans to Charleston as a check and balance to the big-spending Democrats and to help create more reasonable, responsible legislation. We cannot sustain many more sessions like this one.”
