Votes for President of the United States Irrelevant
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – The Democrats in the State Legislature are actively pushing a bill that ensures the votes of the people of West Virginia for President are irrelevant. The bill (HB 2378 and its companion SB 322) will alter the manner in which electors are chosen from West Virginia in Presidential elections.
“In all my years in the political world, I don’t think I have ever seen a more misguided and insulting attack on the right of the people of West Virginia to vote and have their voice heard," said Chad Holland, Executive Director of the West Virginia Republican Party. “The Democrats are taking away the ability of the people of West Virginia to choose who they want to be President of the United States. There is literally no practical difference between prohibiting the people of West Virginia from voting and what this bill accomplishes.”
“This is yet another example of the Democrats in the State Legislature allowing the D.C. liberal agenda to invade the sovereignty of the great state of West Virginia,” continued Chad Holland. “Based on this proposal, we can soon expect the liberal Democrats in West Virginia and D.C to to propose that West Virginia does not deserve 2 U.S. Senators because our population is less than that of 36 other states.”
Chad Holland concluded, “The Democrats in the State Legislature have a long history of subverting the deeply cherished idea that each person’s vote should count with their continued refusal to allow single-member districts, and this is simply another step in the progression of the Democrats refusal to allow the people a free say in elections.”
