GOP Chairman Not A Candidate In 2011
Stuart Says “My Work Is Not Finished”
CHARLESTON, W.VA. – “I want to put to rest the continuing and persistent rumors of my candidacy for Governor. While those rumors have not been aided by me, I understand the desire for bold leadership with a clear vision for our future. The rumors are flattering but, as a leader, a run for Governor in 2011 is neither practical nor prudent given the stream of progress I am building for the Republican Party and the lingering uncertainty as to whether the selection process for our nominee will be by convention or primary process. My first duty, and the duty of all real leaders, is to put personal ambition aside in the best interests of our citizens to lead my party through an uncertain process. Although I am humbled by the encouragement of so many supporters across the state, I do not intend to be a candidate for Governor this year," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party.
“I am committed to continuing my work building the Republican Party, strengthening our two party system, and creating a much better future for West Virginians of all political parties. In a very short time, my team has realized a remarkable degree of success for the Republican Party in West Virginia,” said Stuart. “The continuing rumors of my candidacy are merely a reflection and recognition of my efforts.”
“I want to serve the people to build this wonderful state in any capacity for which I am called by our West Virginia family. While I will not be a candidate for statewide office in 2011, I intend to evaluate statewide and federal opportunities in 2012 at the appropriate time with my family, friends and supporters. I am leaving every opportunity open,” said Stuart.
“I will continue to fight for a better West Virginia and to be the voice of citizens of all parties that want to build an economy and government that is worthy of our fine citizens,” said Stuart. “I look forward to cotinuing to work with the members of the Republican Executive Committee, our elected leaders in Washington and Charleston, and, soon, the next Republican Governor of this great state.”
