John Perdue Campaigning on Taxpayer Dime/Time?
JOHN PERDUE CAMPAINING ON TAXPAYER DIME/TIME?Who is Tracking Perdue’s Middle-of-the-Workday Campaign Stops?
CHARLESTON, WV – John Perdue is scheduling campaign stops during the work day when he is supposed to be serving the people of West Virginia as State Treasurer.
“If John Perdue is taking time during the workday to campaign for Governor, is he using his vacation time and reimbursing taxpayers for his expenses?” said Chad Holland, Executive Director of the West Virginia Republican Party. “Campaigning during the workday brings up all sorts of concerns – state cars, travel, state phones, department staff, etc. Not to mention, the people of West Virginia hired him to do a job.”
Chad Holland continued, “John Perdue’s campaign website says he will be at a town hall meeting in Weirton at a non-profit on Thursday at noon. On Monday, he was in Morgantown. How does he do his job in Charleston and at the same time travel around the state campaigning during work hours? Even if an event is at 5 p.m. in Weirton, what about the time it took to get there? Are the taxpayers paying for this? And should he have a campaign event at a non-profit? Now we understand why the State Treasurer’s budget grew from $5.5 million in 2006 to $6.9 million in 2010.”
"Being Governor requires accountability to the taxpayers,” concluded Holland. “John Perdue needs to explain how he can do his hired job and be at a campaign event in Weirton during the middle of a workday.”
