Legislative Democrats Fiscally Irresponsible

LEGISLATIVE DEMOCRATS FISCALLY IRRESPONSIBLE
State GOP Criticizes Run-Away Spending & Failure to Address OPEB, Marcellus

CHARLESTON, WV – As the 2011 regular session came to a close last night at midnight, the Legislature had passed massive new spending bills granting pay raises to government workers and judges, massive new subsidies to the gambling industry, massive increases in DMV and other fees, and budget-busting portions of Obamacare. All the while, the Legislature failed to address some of West Virginia’s most pressing issues - the $8 billion pension crisis and Marcellus shale gas.

“Thank God ”spendapalooza” is over. West Virginia could not afford one more day of this spending marathon," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “Democrats are in complete control of the Legislature and completely out of control of the budget and our economy.”

“The Democrats under the leadership of Tomblin, Kessler and Thompson are fiscally irresponsible,” said Stuart. “The Democrats engaged in a contest of ‘how far left can we go’ and ‘how much money can we spend.’ The damage from the Democrats massive spending bills and their negligent failure to address the pension crisis will be felt for decades. President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Washington are in perfect harmony with legislative Democrats.”

“The Democrats had plenty of time to spend the people’s treasure and to recess for hours so that they could rally with the big union bosses, but they had no time to address serious issues like the pension crisis and Marcellus shale gas,” continued Stuart. “All working families – union and non-union - deserve better.”

“Working families deserve leadership that can manage a budget, cut spending, cut taxes, and get our priorities in order,” continued Stuart. “The Democrats have sadly become the tools of the special interests and big union bosses. Rank and file Democrats all across West Virginia have nothing in common with the liberal Democrats in the Legislature. I am fighting for working families of both political parties. Legislative Democrats are fighting for union bosses, Obama’s agenda and the special interest.”

“West Virginians must stand and take notice of the failure of elected Democrats to be responsible or to create solutions,” concluded Stuart. “We can never again allow a Legislative session such as this to occur ever again. Elected Democrats has turned their backs on good Democrats and good Republicans all across this great state. It is a shame.”
