McKinley, Capito Provide Leadership for Economy/Nation

MCKINLEY, CAPITO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR ECONOMY/NATION
Rahall Again Votes to Support Obama; Manchin & Rockefeller Have Only Rhetoric

CHARLESTON, W.V. – Today, the House of Representatives passed a historic deficit reduction plan without the support of a single Democrat to raise the debt limit and begin to control government spending.

“Congressman McKinley and Congresswoman Capito have once again displayed tremendous leadership and courage by supporting a deficit reduction plan that begins to control government spending without raising taxes," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “West Virginia is fortunate to have two great leaders in Congress.”

“The perfect is the enemy of the good,” said Stuart. “Some may criticize today’s measure as too timid or too severe but failure to pass the measure would have been a failure for the nation and every American family. The clock is ticking and we simply cannot afford to risk seeking a perfect plan when our economy and American jobs are directly on the line.  The Republican plan cuts federal spending and doesn’t raise taxes. This is a great, albeit imperfect, first step. ”

“Today, Speaker Boehner and House Republicans started the long process of restoring the faith of the American people in our ability to control spending and the growth of government,” said Stuart.

“President Obama and Congressional Democrats have proven inept to address our poor economy.  Next year when we elect a Republican Senate and a Republican President, we can further and more aggressively fix a system that is seriously broken.”

“Today’s measure passed without the support of President Obama, Nick Rahall, or any other Congressional Democrat despite the risks to our economy if no plan is passed and without a plan of their own,” said Stuart.  “Families are hurting and the nation is on the brink of financial calamity yet Obama and Rahall offer only criticism, no solutions, and no plan.”

Stuart concluded, “The Boehner plan must now pass the Senate where it has been called by Senate Democrats “dead on arrival.”  Let’s hope for the nation’s sake that Senators Rockefeller and Manchin put the nation first rather than their own liberal desires for higher taxes and more government spending.  Political rhetoric is worthless.  Rockefeller and Manchin need to start standing with us rather than continuing to fight for Obama and his far-left agenda.”
