Party Line Vote Proves Senate Democrat Values
PARTY LINE VOTES PROVE SENATE DEMOCRAT VALUESState GOP Chair Says GOP Will Contest Every Seat
CHARLESTON, WV – On Monday, West Virginia’s State Senate passed the public employee pay raise and bonus bill (HB 2879) on a party line vote with all Republicans voting against it. The State Senate also passed SB 407 & 408 along party lines with every Republican voting “No”. SB 407 adopts individual requirements mandated by Obama’s healthcare takeover and SB 408 establishes a state Health Exchange in accordance with Obama’s health plan.
“Despite trying to pretend otherwise, the Democrats in the State Senate today have shown the public their true colors as liberals that stand in lock-step with President Obama and his big-government agenda," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “Republicans stood united and squarely on the side of working families. I am proud of them. Sadly, Democrats outnumber the GOP by more than 3:1 in the State Senate. Despite courageous efforts, Republicans are powerless to stop State Senate Democrats big-government, big-spending, and big-tax agenda.”
“In 2012, fourteen Senate Democrats shall stand for reelection,” said Stuart. “All fourteen will need to explain to the voters why they stand with Obama and not with us. We intend to explain to the people of West Virginia the voting records of their elected Senators so they clearly understand the need to send new members to the Legislature. Senate Democrats can talk a good game but, in 2012, their voting records will speak with absolute clarity. We intend to vigorously compete for every Democrat-held Senate seat.”
“Three votes and three instances where Senate Democrats voted to spend more money and grow the size of government and Republicans alone stood for West Virginia families and fiscal responsibility,” continued Stuart. “State Senate Democrats are an insulated majority that is out of step with ordinary West Virginians. They are not fiscally responsible.”
“Today, Senate Democrats have proven little regard for West Virginia families. Every Senate Democrat voted for increased spending and for Obamacare. Every Republican voted for fiscal responsibility and West Virginia families. The need for new leadership could not be more clear,” concluded Stuart.
