Redistricting Process is Joke with Pre-Determined Outcome

REDISTRICTING PROCESS IS JOKE WITH PRE-DETERMINED OUTCOME
Stuart Says Process For Redistricting Inexcusable Sham

CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia House of Delegates today scheduled a public hearing for a bill that does not yet exist. At around 12:15pm, House of Delegates leadership announced a public hearing for 5:00pm, notice barely more than four hours in length.

“Ruse, sham, joke, charade, façade – all those terms work to describe the House leadership and its process for redistricting. The process being used for redistricting by House leadership is a literal sham and, frankly, inexcusable," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “House leadership has absolutely no intent to enact single-member districts. No maps. A public hearing announced a mere few hours in advance. This is a grand insult to all West Virginians.”

“Whether you are for or against single member districts, the process has been a sham. This is a mere ruse to ensure reelection of incumbents for the self-interest of elected politicians,” said Stuart.

“The process is a joke in which the outcome is pre-determined. House leaders and the House Committee could care less what anyone thinks on the issue. They will do whatever they want regardless of the best interests of the public. This is about reelection, not redistricting.”

“This issue will not go away without us making the public fully aware of the sham that is taking place,” said Stuart. “The public should at least get a fair process. Instead, the public is made victim of a game of charades by House leadership and its pretend Redistricting Committee.”

“Earl Ray Tomblin is a grand conspirator in this joke of a process,” said Stuart. “Tomblin is playing the public just like House leadership and its fake committee and none of the key players intend to do anything except support the status quo. This is the reason so many people are cynical about government today.”

Stuart concluded, “I can provide a 100% guaranty that single member districts are not even being given serious consideration and that Earl Ray will sign a bill that maintains the status quo. I understand very clearly that Earl Ray and House leaders are more interested in taking care of themselves than in representing the people of West Virginia.”
