Voter Apathy Result of Democrats Failed Record and Political Games

VOTER APATHY RESULT OF DEMOCRATS FAILED RECORD AND PLAYING POLITICAL GAMES
Stuart SaysTurnout Low Because Process Has Turned Off Voters

CHARLESTON, WV - Early voting turnout for the 2011 Special Primary for Governor has thus far been behind even the poor turnout of the Special Election for the United States Senate Election of 2010. It is possible that the twelve percent turnout from that election could exceed the final turnout for the election of the next Governor of West Virginia.

“On the eve of an historic election for Governor, only a small percentage of voters have even cast a ballot," said Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party. “It is easy to understand voters’ apathy. The Democrats over-politicized the election process and engaged in political shenanigans that have turned off voters.”

“Joe Manchin started this bungled process and his Democrat friends in Charleston have continued it. The moment Joe Manchin chose to leave his post before the end of his term, all the Democrat “Joe Manchin wannabes” began to play extreme games of “who’s in charge.” Voters have become completely fed up with the process and the clear political games being played,” said Stuart.

“The moving trucks had barely left the Governor’s Mansion before Tomblin moved the family into their new home,” said Stuart. “Kessler pulled a coup in the State Senate and Thompson curried every bit of union favor he possibly could as Speaker of the House. Tomblin said “no election.” Then litigation. Then Tomblin supported an election as his counterparts continued to play the game of “is a convention or election better for me?” Not to mention, the past Legislative session was one of the worst in the history of the state. The entire process was bungled and managed so badly that voters are simply turned-off to the process.”

“Given how badly the liberal Democrats have managed West Virginia’s economy, our high jobless rate and taxes under Tomblin, and how poorly the Democrats handled the election process, it is no wonder that the voters are cynical and apathetic,” said Stuart. “The low voter turnout is an absolute rejection of the Democrats, all of whom hold the most powerful positions in state government.”

“Republicans were united in the call for an election and we clearly understand that a better West Virginia can only happen with new leadership and a rejection of the status quo,” said Stuart. “West Virginia is no longer a blue state that is aligned with the Obama liberals. The liberal Democrats have failed the people of West Virginia. Working families want a better future.”

“With a new direction and new leadership, the future of West Virginia and our families can be very bright,” said Stuart. “The liberal Democrats have seriously weakened and damaged the ability of West Virginia to compete in the global marketplace. As we compete to elect the next Governor, we will do so on a vision for building a better future, creating a more competitive West Virginia, and unleashing the business sector to create thousands of new jobs.”
Stuart concluded, “The liberal Democrats and good ol’ boys that have controlled this state for decades are about to be replaced with new leadership, new ideas, and a new energy and enthusiasm that will unite and inspire the people of West Virginia.”
